Preparatory Novena to the Feast of Saint Joseph The Worker.
The feast of St. Joseph the Worker was instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1956. From the humility and working life of St. Joseph, through the working of our Lord in Joseph’s shop, and much more, this patronage provides ample material for reflection for all Catholics. For our purposes, let’s consider how the feast calls man to a certain threefold remembrance:
1. We must work as a penalty for the Fall;
2. Through His Life, Passion, and Death, Jesus Christ has sanctified work;
3. Because of His sanctifying effect on work, it is a true blessing for the sons of Adam to work in communion with the life and work of Christ.
In fact, all of this can be seen in the Collect of the Mass: “O God, Creator of all things, Who didst lay on the human race the law of labor (first remembrance): graciously grant that by following the example of Saint Joseph and under his patronage (second remembrance), we may carry out the work Thou dost command, and obtain the reward Thou dost promise (third remembrance). Through our Lord…”
We want to offer this Novena for all those who already struggle or will struggle with their job in these weeks of the COVID crisis. We also thank St. Joseph for his protection over our parish and families during these epidemics.
Prayer to St Joseph by St Francis de Sales
Glorious St Joseph, spouse of Mary, grant us thy paternal protection, we beseech thee by the heart of Jesus Christ. O thou, whose power extends to all our necessities and can render possible for us the most impossible things, open thy fatherly eyes to the needs of thy children.
In the trouble and distress which afflicts us, we confidently have recourse to thee. Deign to take under your charitable charge this important and difficult matter, cause of our worries. Make its happy outcome be for God's glory and for the good of His devoted servants. Amen.
Saint Joseph Food Drive
During this time we collect non-perishable food items to help all those who suffer in their daily life because of the COVID crisis. Please place your donations in the church common room. Please contact the church if you are in need.
Thank you for your help.
Vow to Saint Joseph at St. Thomas More
Following these examples of Faith, our Prior, Father Marc Vernoy, made a vow to honor St. Joseph for his protection of the priests and our parishioners in Florida during this time of disease by erecting a special outdoor statue and by making an annual procession in his honor.
